I know it wont work in stock form, but can it work without a minitub/tub?

Move leafsprings in, use an A-body 8-3/4 and 15x10s out back w/ 325/50/15s.

My other option is a 275/60/15 but I really want a little more meat out back.

it won't work. I had to mini tub and relocate springs to fit my 325-50-15s on 10" rims. you will hit the wheel well other wise!

This is what mine looks like with 325s

Heres my old Barracuda with 3250-50-15s, springs moved in but no mini tub. The rims were to narrow for these tires though. They really need a 10 or 12" rim. These were on 8.5"

Heres another with 295-65-15s on a 15X10, Ladder bars but stock wheel wells.

Here is what mine used to look like, When I bought it my demon had 12 slicks on 8" rims and tires stuck out too far for my taste. They had 2 spacers per side to make it work. It was cobbled like everything else on the car. they also had traction bars on it. ha! ha!

If you want to tuck them in nice you need to move the springs to the frame rails and mini tub it like his first pick. If you dont mind them hanging out you can jam them in there. I ended up swapping to a 275-60-15.

275/50/15 no muss no fuss on a 8" wheel w/ 4.5" backspace on a 70 Duster. Springs in stock location. They are about 1/16" away from spring clamps. Gonna run a 1/4" spacer...little wider than a 275/60 and only 26" tall so you dont loose any gear with a tall 60 series tire....low and mean looking too! I never was one for a real tall tire on the back of an A-body...

Hope it's ok to post in this old thread?

I would also like to put 325-50/15's under my '72 Dart. It has already been mini-tubbed when I got it, and I'm planning on ladder bars (but not sure yet if coilovers or leaf springs/floaters)... The problem is that I have a B-body 8-3/4 rear & leafs hung under it currently (haven't measured it yet to see which one, there are different widths!) and don't want to narrow it.

Section width is about 13.1" (vs. 11.1" for a 275/60 tire). That will be tight. It will need lots of backspacing, probably 7 or 8". There doesn't seem to be any 10" rim with that much. The Centerline Auto Drag 15x9 is the minimum recommended width for the planned Nitto DR555 drag radial, but it can be had with 7-1/4" bs).

On the other boards I've been recommended to call Wheel Vintiques and go with a steel rim. I guess the bottom line is, 325's MAY be doable without custom rims IF the 7-1/4" backspacing is sufficient. Time to get out the measuring tape and plumb line...

heres mine 325-50-15 springs moved in 10'' rim

DrCharles, you can get weld drag lites in a 7-7.25" back spacing. mine are 6" right now and it is not enough. I will be getting 7.25" bs for mine! my demon had a B body rear end under it when I bought it and I sold it and bought an A body rear for it! much easier to fit the wheels under it with the correct housing! Use this method to determine the EXACT backspacing you need for YOUR car with YOUR rearend. Guessing and/or taking advice from other people on what they used on THEIR car is only gonna cost you lots of money.

How to measure for correct backspacing

Also, when I did mine, I needed a 7.5" backspace on a 10" wheel. That just looks funny to me. I wanted an old school look with deep dish rear wheels. So I had my rearend narrowed 4" on each side and run 3.5" bs which I think looks much better.
