My rear pop out window latches don't stay open. Anybody successfully rebuilt there's?

It's the chrome style. 70 to 72 Duster most B bodies 68 to 70. Sorry. I knew I was gonna hear about it.

A Winnebago! Hell a herd of Winnebagos!
Tubes.....is that White punks on dope?

I had the same question yesterday and almost posted it but I was afraid everyone would make fun of it and change the subject...I guess I was correct. But seriously, I'm trying to figure out why mine will not go past center and lock as well. I don't mind taking mine off and tinkering but if someone has already figured this out I'm all ears.

Mine are just sloppy. Open fine but will fall shut at the slightest touch. I sometimes tie wrap them open in the summer. At 78 bucks each I'd like to see if I can make them better before dumping that kind of money into something that doesn't make the car go faster!

Yeah so mine are sloppy too. One goes slightly past center and wants to stay there but is too loose. The other one is sloppy but will not quite go past center. If you push on them from the outside they close. I just went out and tightened the screw on the spring and it helped a little but I'm wondering if a person could tap out the roll pin with a pin punch and drill it to the next size larger, if that wouldn't help a bit. Without removing mine, I'm not sure how the center hinge works cause I don't see a roll pin there but maybe something similar could be done there? I've got AC but they are too cool to not pop open at a show! I think the problem with these is they are made of pot metal and it wears out quickly in the hinges.

I think i may have a spare somewhere. But yes just loose and sloppy. Maybe a roll pin swap. Im not sure what the issue is but there doesn't seem to be a kit out there.

I went out to look at mine, because I know it is similar in what keeps the latch open to see if there was a way to refurbish it. Kitty suddenly reminded me that I threw it on with a trash load not long ago and took it to the dump. My bad. I remember now. I tried to give the thing away and nobody wanted it. It was a whole driver's side quarter glass for 73 and up Duster.

Fixed mine! must give credit where credit is due. I did a search and found the post linked below...
Basically, remove the screw and tensioning plate (be careful as I dropped the screw between the seat and the rear seat panel and had to fish it out with a magnet). Then take the plate and put a 1/4 washer along it so you can put it in a vise without flattening out the 90* bend and have the loop facing the sky at the top of the vise. Then gently tap the loop so it is a bit tighter and over towards the part it engages. Then reinstall. Works like brand new!

The problem with this design is this SHOULD be spring steel but it is not and therefor it bends out of shape.

Just an idea—- this might work for you.
I have tightened up flex-sockets that were too floppy using a small amount of locktite (blue). Then flexing them while the solution dried. They now hold their position while on a long extension but will still flex. This could possibly snug up your window latch as well.
Yote

The fix for these is to re-bend the metal plate which is held in by one screw. I copied a link in a previous post of mine where it is better described.
