I am still confused about the 1.88 heads, vs. 2.02 heads. ](*,)
Most of the articles I read have to do with the J heads on a 318.
I want to know about the 360.
I have basically a stock motor. I wanted to build it up a bit while it was still out of the car. I figured getting 2.02 heads would be a good start, BUT from what I read it would be a bit overkill for my stock engine. But then what was the purpose of stock 2.02 heads then?
Yes, I have the stock hwy gears, and no stock converter, but that's just for now. That will be added down the road. (I hope)
In my thinking a good cam (LUN-60402LK) and the 2.02 heads milled for added compression would be a good start, BUT according to what I read I'd be better off with the 1.88. Could someone explain this to me?
and If I'm milling the heads for a 360, how far would they need to be milled?
Thanks much! I have SOOO much to learn! :read2:

I don't know why the heads would be too much. My 71 360 came stock with the 2.02/160 valves. The cam looks ok to me for a mild street cam. As for milling the heads I have taken .030 off mine (we suspect .015 was taken off prior to this milling for a total of .045) with no ill effects other than bolt hole alignment and front/rear manifold seal. We did away with the seals and used silicone sealer and it works fine

WARNING I have a set of 915 J heads that have been milled .060". My cam of choice has been a MOPAR 284/484 hydraulic. On any stock piston 360 the exhaust valves hit the piston. I was able to use the heads on an early LA 318 when i modified the exhaust valve relief on the piston.

I like 2.02s on a 360. I think the milling and that cam is a good choice. 1.88s might help in torque production below 2K, but they should make more torque at peak, and more horsepower at peak with the 2.02s.

FWIW, the heads that are on your 360 are for all pratical purposes the same as the 2.02 J heads. Instead of spending money on a set of J heads just have the seats cut in your existing heads to accept 2.02 intakes.
