question...bought some gauges, oil, water and volts...can i splice off the stock gauges and have both sets working.

Yes you should be able to do this very easily. Are the water temp. and oil pressure mechanical gauges?

....uh.....NO

But it depends on what you mean by "splice."

If you have an aftermarket mechanical oil gauge, you'll have to "tee" into the oil port to have the oil lamp and oil gauge connected. IF you have an electrical aftermarket gauge, you'll have to tee into the oil port and install the correct sender to match the aftermarket gauge.

Same deal, really with aftermarket temp. You'll have to figure a way to mount both senders if you want both gauges to work.

thanks...they are mechanical..triple gauge pro 2.6 cluster...where on the block is the oil connector and where is the water temp plug located...

Oil in the back, use a brass tee; for the temp you'll probably have to put it the lower pass side drain plug; voltage, just grab any switched 12 volt wire.

we need to know what sort of engine you have......................

OK, on the small blocks, the oil sender is back by the distributor. If you want to keep the original oil sender, you'll have to go to the parts store and get a tee and fittings, known as 1/8" pipe to hook both up.

Do we understand your new temp gauge is mechanical? If so, that's a little complicated. You just about have to put a short tee in place of the heater hose fitting to install the new mechanical gauge. Your temp gauge sender is up on the front of the intake manifold, just about the only thing up there with a wire hooked to it.

You have a shop manual?
