Quick drive shaft question......

-
I know I'm blowing 318's budget, but I will anyway.
I think 3 grand is a realistic budget for a reliable transmission. convertor and driveshaft/u-joints.
We are talking about a drag truck searching for the 10's.
pay now or pay dearly. :poke:

I had a long one cut down for one of my drivers.

Yoke on one end removed in a lathe, tube shortened, yoke welded back in then balanced. Local shop, 90 bucks.

I got some serious sticker shock the last time I took some drivelines in.. quoted me $350 to $450 over the phone. I get there and they quote me 575 to 625..
I got a call a week later and they're done and it's $900...:mob:..
Needless to say I flipped my lid...

Doesn't surprise me, them slip yokes wear out and the splines they go into do too.
A bunch of parts to wear out on a 4x4.
My 73 W200 is due for some attention in that area. :(

When I question them what the hell with those prices? They should well we just raised our prices... I said was that before or after I gave you the drivelines?...

I can't help, but I'll comment anyway....
The last shaft I bought was for a pure racecar, 3 1/2 aluminum, 1350s and billet yokes. Wish I remembered who did it. It was local, under $500.
If I needed one tomorrow I would go to the nationally known shop just down the street, inland empire driveline service. I doubt anything will be under $500 now.
Just had a 2 piece shaft made for a truck I am building by Inland Empire Driveline. I’ve used them for years. $200 and 3 days. Excellent drive shaft shop.

My prices I've payed have been between $200-$400 taxes included.

$900...

Man! I am way out of my league on this site. There is no way I could ever afford the prices people on here pay for stuff.

The most I ever paid to have a driveshaft shortened was $25 and I balanced it myself with hose clamps, per the MP chassis book.

Find an old guy with a big lathe and I bet he can help you out.

Did I just find one ???? When will it be in the mail :D

For my W200, I used a local driveline shop, he builds a lot of shafts for the pull truck boys, so his work must be good. Extra HD splines, heavy wall seemless tubing, 1410 ujoints.

Is that with a core trans?

UPDATE: I bought a new driveshaft from Shaftmasters. They had good reviews. I didn't call them, I used their website which was really easy and made my order. They made and shipped unbelievably fast. I should have it tomorrow by tracking, and I ordered Tuesday night. I ordered 3" steel, .095 thick (factory was .083 I believe), 7290, and it will be balanced, of course.
