Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

Another thing you can do is to "serious think" about a hood lock system. Yet another if you have a trunk mount battery, is mount the switch inside the trunk, and if you drag race, device a push rod inside a sleeve. This would allow you to push the switch off but not pull the knob back out and turn it back on. You would have to open the trunk to reset

You could also trip the switch off with a cable. Pull cable like a bicycle brake cable. You can buy that in bulk, you could route it under the carpet, alongside the hump

I'm thinking on mine for a more redneck approach. The 67.....if I live long enough....will have Bullitt wheels. Just a simple plastic covered heavy chain and a simple "hook stick." Push it through a rear wheel, over and around the leaf spring, back out and a padlock.

If you have electronic ignition, put a switch in one of the wires from the the distributor pick up or short them. Nobody will figure that out without a lot of work

I already suggested breaking the power feed to the ECU. Screwing with he dist. leads is likely not a great idea. They are a "low signal" circuit, subject to interference pickup.

I was a little worried about this too, but mine has been running fine this way for awhile. The leads to the dist pickup are pretty long already, so a few more feet of wire doesn’t see to have any effect. I would be surprised if anybody could steal mine (without a tow truck) even if you had the keys. It is impossible to hot wire this way.

I also added an electric door lock solenoid to the console shifter so it won’t come out of park like a late model car. Like others have said, I don’t know that this will stop anyone, but should slow them down if they don’t have a tow truck. I wanted to do something odd & unexpected.

I've thought about something like this, too. I was just gonna use an unobtrusive pin through the shifter LOL

Maybe we need a locking column like a '40 Ford LOL

Yeah, I drive mine to work & leave it in the parking lot all day, so I have an alarm as well. I have been ok so far. I was thinking about a later model steering column with a lock, but I think the bad guys can pop the locks out of those with a slide hammer in 30 sec, so it might not make it much harder. I don’t know if the club things for the steering wheels really do any good either.

For those of you running Fitech fuel injection, switch your ignition setting from tach to VR coil (or vice versa if you're running timing control) and your car will not start as the system will be looking for the wrong ignition trigger. Additionally if you take the display with you (small enough to fit in your pocket) then there is no way to switch the setting. I am sure that Holley would also have a setting like this.

While I have my dash out I will adding a jumper wire from the points side of the tachometer to the cigarette lighter. Push in the lighter and it will ground out any distributor signals...car will crank but no start. Just make sure your lighter element is good to go.
