New Monthly E-Newsletter Focused on Off-Road Issues

Given the mounting threats to off-roading, the SEMA Action Network (SAN) is expanding its commitment to off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation. Unreasonable government actions limiting motorized recreation have long been a problem. Unfortunately, restrictive land-use designations still threaten thousands of miles of roads and trails across the nation. Politicians and regulators are being lobbied from many different directions on how to manage millions of acres of federal public lands. The SAN is at the table as an advocate for motorized recreation.

To enhance this effort, our website includes a dedicated section for off-road issues and news, which can be found at semaSAN.com/OffRoad. The SAN will begin sending out a new monthly newsletter via email, The Navigator, which is focused on keeping you informed on key legislative and regulatory issues impacting the OHV community. Nick and Cheri Copeland enjoy cruising together, primarily using her 1966 13-window VW Deluxe Bus (left) and his 1954 Chevy truck (right).

Florida’s Nick and Cheri Copeland are a husband and wife team that restore vehicles and travel to car shows together. When they met 20 years ago, Nick was already immersed in the hobby. He and his dad had completed a restoration together on the elder’s 1954 Chevy truck. Today, he specializes in mechanics, welding, metal fabrication and paint. Cheri became inspired and wanted to learn how to contribute as well. She took up the art of bodywork under Nick’s guidance. Her subsequent skills in interior work have been self-taught.

By tapping into each other’s expertise, Nick and Cheri have restored many award-winning show cars together. After Nick’s dad passed away, the duo decided to restore the old Chevy pickup again—this time in the ‘street rod’ style. It has been featured in Custom Classic Trucks magazine and was one of twelve "Hansen’s Hot Rods" featured at the Pidgeon Forge Rod Run last year (invited by SAN member, friend and automotive media personality Courtney Hansen ). The pair’s most recent restoration is Cheri's 1966 13-window VW Deluxe Bus which was completed last year. It won a Goodguys’ "Home Built Heaven" award, recognition at Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend, "Best of Show" at Volksfest and other top prizes. Says Cheri, “When your ride is admired or wins an award, there's nothing like the pride of knowing that you did all of the work yourself!”

Since the Copelands attend so many car shows together, Cheri created an alternative to the typical format. In 2011, she launched the Key West Power Cruise. This five-day traveling car show stages events throughout the Florida Keys. The date is centered around the annual SAN-supported Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD)—but this celebration spans nearly a week! Get the full scoop on the event’s website: www.keywestpowercruise.com

Thanks for supporting our hobby, Nick and Cheri! We can’t wait to see more stunning photos.
