Just wanted to share my dash refurbish with anybody interested.
Need to do on the cheap with spray bombs but it should come out ok. :-D

What I have done so far is disasemble, clean guages up, repaint needles, polish lenses, remove wood grain trim, strip paint.
I used oven cleaner to strip the old paint and chrome.
I will do any repair work before priming. It doesn't need much.

Really looks outstanding!

I'm really interested to see a step-by-step description of how you restore the bezel for the rallye dash, especially since it is plated with plastic chrome.

If you could list the steps on restoring the bezel and the products you used, that would be great!

Keep up the great work!

I will be painting with silver paint. I do not have a rechroming process. I think the chrome is to much bling.
Here is a link of a member who does rechrome.
Rally Dash Bezel. Restore or Buy Repo?
dusterdemon

I have just sprayed it with primer and will update soon.

How did you use the over cleaner?
Spray it and leave it on for how long?
Did you have to scrape or sand it at all?
just curious how well it takes everything off, what Brand did you use?

I used the cheap dollar store stuff but easy off reg or HD works the best, the lemon scent doesn't work as well for the $$. It depends on how bad it is, on mine, most came of after it sat for about 20-30, the chrome chomes off quicker then the paint. You may have to pic at the tuff areas but I didn't have much. I did sand and will update shortly. I had to fix the areas where the mounting studs are at(sunkin) and one was broke.

Thanks, I have a spare dash I might mess around with and try to do myself..:)

Here is the patch work I did. The broken post was SG in and will be reinforced with epoxy. I filled some low areas with some light weight body filler. I could have spent more time but I dont need perfect.
I then primerd and sprayed with 3-4 coats of satin black paint.

I will let it dry and mask off for the silver paint. :clock:

I masked off the black areas, sanded where needed and sprayed the silver. I will let it dry for a couple days and do the finish work. It will need some minor touch up.

Here are some pics of the center guage peices, glueing the wood trim panel, and painting the letters. I used a 10/0 brush, still needs some touch up.
