So I think this is what he was talking about doing. What would you guys call this?
Lower it, chop it, do something with the protruding front bumper, ditch the red wheels and you might be on to something...

PS....it's got bags......yes even I broke the cardinal rule and used new suspension technology.
My bad.

Theres alot of us that can relate to the original rat rodders. My Duster for instance is a "build as I drive it" sort of thing.Whenever my budget allows it,I get a part for it.Its not in flat black with the lower quarter rust holes because I like it that way,I hate it I cant wait to start on the body work and throw some nice shiny paint on it and it will look like a diffent car,but not having a garage I know it will pretty much sit until spring when I plan on starting the body work.Im not at all embarrased by the way it looks ,right now,I give a damn how it looks.I care more about how she runs and stops and handles.Once I get that taken care of,you bet she is going to be pretty.I have plans to give her a makeover this summer
Thanks! That was a project that got totally out of hand. The lessons I learned from that are in large part what is keeping my Duster on the road. I'll be picking up on the Beetle again this fall/winter, and hope to have it back on the road by spring....By the way the VW look pretty damn nice.
your Rat needs a 6" hair cut............ done... sweet piece did you pave your driveway yet?? 8)
AWWW Crap, come on guys this is...WAS the only forum that I'm part of where I don't...DIDN'T have to worry about seeing that stupid rat rod debate pop up.:angry7:
I stopped going to all mopar shows because I got tired of seeing the same few types of cars over and over again, I stopped going to Goodguys because I got tired of seeing the same oldsters with their dumb straw fedoras and small block chevies crammed into all the 90's style trailer queens and I'm almost ready to stop going to "rat rod" shows until all the dillrods with their pant cuffs rolled up and 2' tall pompadours move onto the next thing. There is almost nothing left!
OOOHHHHH I GOT IT!!!! Lets argue about who's dart is more traditional!!!!:bootysha:
Bags aren't new, they have been used in cars since the 30's so you will still be allowed on the HAMB... I'm sorry.
well i was going to shave the back hanlds becase i have 2 more doors i was going to learn how to lol the drip rails is just an ideal idk if im going to do it and im not going to sell itI wouldn't cut off the drip rails...it's just looks goofy. Taking off the rear door handles looks silly...kinda like yeah it's got the rear doors....but don't look at 'em...I'll just hide them and people will think it's a 2 door. Stay with classic styling and not fad styling and if you decide to get rid of it or keep it for a long time you'll be happier and actually be able to sell in the future.
By the way the VW look pretty damn nice.
I can only hope that poor excuse for a "truck" causes as much pain to passengers as it does to viewers.
To try and justify that as "what your grandparents or old timers did back in the day" only shows extreme ignorance to the hobby. Old timers didn't drive around in busted up ****, they didn't leave rust as some sort of a statement and they damn sure didn't go out of their way to make it look like ***. They had pride in their vehicles. Why do you think you still find farm trucks that take little work to get road worthy again? Because even when they beat them, they still took care of them. So many usable bodies have been ruined by this **** trend it makes me sick.
I am assuming you are talking about my truck.
First off...I don't think you have been around enough to know what the old timers did with their cars unless you know all of the old timers in the whole world. My dad and his buddies grew up real poor and in a real **** neighborhood in the industrial side of town. They didn't have money just ingenuity and scrap. Somehow they were able to piece together cars from scrap and make them safe enough to drive....yes they were rusty and crusty but that's what a jalopy is. Guess what? They drove the **** out of em then sold them to their even poorer friends.
Secondly my truck had spent the last 30 years sitting in a field rotting away. It would have never moved had I not saw the beauty in the patina that mother nature gave it. I feel that slapping a coat of bondo and primer over that beautiful finish would be sacraligous. Who am I to change what God and Mother earth did to this truck. Most people who encounter it LOVE IT. Only those without vision or appreciation for the sublime are scared.
Thirdly it is slightly uncomfortable but that's my mistake. I went for form over function on the seating arrangement. Easy fix.
So you my friend are the ignorant one...by having a closed minded opinion you have shown your true colors.
Get back to your four door and buff the paint and chrome till your arms fall off.......guess what? All the paint and chrome in the world will never make a 4 door look valiant good. Load it up with 3 old ladies and thats a different story.
G'day grandma.
