Fromt drum practically fell out but the rear is stuck. Wasn’t grabbing reverse so maybe the clutchpacks are welded? Any tips for getting it out

So when you grab the shaft you can't pull the whole thing out?

Sure sounds like the Frictions and steels are welded together. It'll be tough to pull but it should eventually as the teeth/splines in the fractions get loosened up.

I been trying. It’s an early 904. might be missing something
I don’t think you are missing anything. As @VOETOM said, it’s probably just welded (stuck) together. The rear of that input shaft “sits” on the front of the output shaft with a bushing between them. Then the friction plate teeth are engaging the drum teeth you cannot see yet.
If it won’t come out, get a helper. Hold it tailshaft up, and smack the whole assembly down FLAT on a wooden wookbench or on plywood laying flat on concrete pavement. Must be pretty flat or you risk breaking the case. Wood is soft enough to help prevent damage to the case.

Missing some big balls. That's what it takes sometimes. lol

Been there numerous times at work,
I have had to drill two holes in the sun shell 180 degrees from each other, and drive the drum forward out of the trans with a hammer and punch.
Not fun but will not damage.any parts so they can't be reused.
Much better than dropping case on Bell and risking a fracture of the case.
Drill the holes as far back on the shell in curved area as possible, and rotate drum between strokes.
It will come out.

The clutch plates are so warped and wore down that the spline on one or two are stuck in that little space behind the spline of the front anulus. Try a rotating, gyrating motion on the input shaft as you pull up.

I’ve done a few welded together bad like that. I usually mount the trans to something solid so it can’t move then grab the input shaft and work it back and forth vigorously while spinning it and they eventually break free. Good luck

Take off the tailshaft housing rear bearing and the governor drop the whole rotating assy out and disassemble the gear train from the back and including the sun shell should let you get the ring gear out of the drum that way?

I've had a few do that. Realize you may be buying a few hard parts when things get married. Drilling the two holes in the back corners of the sun shell is a great idea. I've usually had success using a dead blow hitting the end of the input shaft sideways while turning the geartrain.
If you remove the whole rotating assembly it will still be one unit because the planetary snap ring is under the stuck rear drum.

Sorry everyone.. here’s why it was stuck. Trans is rebuilt got the torque converter rebuilt and should start reassembly this weekend.
