Be careful and do your research. IF that's a Dana 60, it didn't come there. Make dang SURE you know what one looks like before you buy it.

Well, I've kind of decided against the polls a little. Due to budget reasons only, I contacted Dr.Diff (Cass Eslick) And got a Suregrip clutch pack rebuild set for $65 ($81 after shipping).
And have access to a buddies shop with a lift and specialized tools.
That said and done I can get this rearend serviced for less than $100 if I don't need new ring & pinion gears.
If I do need new R&P gears that's only around $160-$200, still way under the $800 budget. (save the rest for Christmas shopping).

Ok another question: I did see an old 1966? Plymouth Belvedere 4 door (what I thought was a Chrysler 300 until I got a closer look) in the local salvage yard that had a Dana 60 one legger in it. Still he wants $300 for the whole axle only.
Is this thing worth even getting? (not now, but possibly later)
Still has the 440 in it too... Hmmm... Very tempting.

On the current situation: I think you made,a good choice. ( rebuilding, shat you have. As for a Dana 60 in a '66 Belvedere, most likely swapped in ( if it is one..) Before you peel simolians off on it,I would I.d. it for sure, first.

Come to find out it is indeed a Dana 60 or 9 3/4 as some call it according to the salvage yard manager. Did some research, some of them did come optioned with it: http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2010/10/01/hmn_feature25.html

I have never seen a 5 lug Dana 60 before.
I did not know Dana 60's were optioned on cars. You learn something new everyday.
However it is a one legged and in dire need of rebuild. I haggled with him he's still stuck on $300 for it.

The Dana 60 was NOT an option for a 4 door Chrysler product. Ever. They were found under selected 2 door muscle cars such as 440 and Hemi powered cars. If the Dana is under there, it's not original equipment.

would like to see whats under that hood if they thought a dana 60 was needed. IF a Dana 60 IMO get it. BUT BE SURE.

is the 1974 8.25" a cone type or clutch type? get the rearend code off the fender tag of that 1966 4 door!

I was not aware the 8.250 came with a cone type unit. All I have ever seen were clutch types.

The 90's Jeep Cherokee 4.0 came with a Chrysler 8.25. It's the same width as a late 60's b-body 8.75. I fit one under my 68 B'cuda with no problems. You would have to cut off the perches and reweld them, but that's not a big problem. Pre-96 carriers will also fit. After 96 the axles and carrier went to a 29 spline count. You can look for the Trac-Loks in Jeep, Dakota, and Durango.

Well what the heck? Why do I get odd ball crap!?
I have the cone type 8.25 that is extremely worn.

Is it possible to even rebuild these?

Yup they can be reconditioned. I have done a few for members here myself. It's not too difficult.

There was one...1966 hemi Belvedere II 4 door special ordered and sent to Finland. Of the 4 total hemi 4 door cars built in '66 and '67, it's the only 4 speed car and it had a 3.54 dana 60. The rest were automatic and 8 3/4.
