8 1/4 or 7 1/4? How can you tell from the exterior? Thanks.

I'm like 99% sure its a 8 1/4

8 1/4" rear. It has 10 bolts holding the rear cover on and 3" axle tubes. The 7 1/4" is more of an oval shape, only has 9 cover bolts, and uses 2 1/2" axle tubes.

I have a 71 Duster 225 slant six with an 8 1/4? Shouldn't it be a 7 1/4?

Somebody may have swapped it at one time.

My 71 duster was originally a 225 and has a 7 1/4, but I'm sure it was an option to get the 8 1/4. the pics is deff an 8 1/4.
