rebuilding carter 2 barrel carb- "small ball"?

I'm halfway through my first carb rebuild and now have the carb apart and soaking. I'm just confused because my rebuild kit came with a "small ball" and it shows it on the diagram, but it's not clear where it goes and I did not see the small ball come out... it may have fallen out, or for all I know it wasn't there in the first place. Can someone clarify exactly where to install the small ball?

Here is a diagram, it's not the exact same as mine but it's close, the small ball is number 26 and is near the venturi assembly on the right side of the diagram.

im pretty sure that it goes under the venturi cluster in the accelerator pump discharge passage.and the ladge one goes under the pump plunger.
