Remember Testor's model car paint that came in little square bottles and little spray can? Here's the Testor's factory today. (Pulled off Facebook.)

It's a shame to see an old building abandoned & falling apart. Another piece of history gone. Make way for progress, I guess. I also heard here that the Rust-olem company is doing away with the Testors division.

I participate on at least 4 discussion groups on "model magazine" websites as well as too many scale model pages on facebook and discussions on reddit and the only place I'm seeing anything about Testors being discontinued altogether is here. Model Master enamel/acryl, Metalizers and Colors By Boyd was discontinued years ago and they scaled back the 1/4oz bottles around the same time but they're still available at the craft chain stores as well as my LHS.

When I moved here I hooked my dog up with a new doctor who was originally from the Chicago area. His father designed the Testors logo.

I have mine . Most of them you need a pliers to open and they are as hard as a rock.

looks like most of the damage is vandalism. The community did it to itself . Then they cry about not having jobs as they get older. I believe a teen caught destroying america should be sent to a third world country for 1 year. They may learn to respect the country they live in.

So is this the older building that burned?

>>>"On February 1, 1944, a fire broke out at Testor's main Rockford facility. In addition to totally destroying the upper two floors of the four-story brick building, production lines and equipment suffered severe damage from both the fire itself and from the water used to douse the flames. Total damage was estimated at over US$200,000; however, in less than a year a new, larger plant was built and production continued. "

Reminds me of the Packard plant. It’s a wonder I had any brain cells left after all the hours I spent breathing that stuff when I was a kid. Then, again, it could explain a few things. I’m pretty sure we’re not far away from kids being able to print their models already completed, using licensed software. Probably in color. Hopefully, not a Tesla.

Testors is still in business in Rockford. They just don't use that location anymore. I have several new jars yet unopened here waiting on me to get off my BUTT and paint some Valiant hub caps. They were actually bought out several years ago by Rustoleum and Testors paints are still made in USA. Hobby Lobby sells the Testors paints still in the same little square jars.

I bought a 10 pack back in the 90`s, yeah it takes pliers to open them but the paint is still good...amazing

I'm a helluva lot more likely to disbelieve Facebook than I am to think Testors doesn't sell paint in little square jars.

1944? 80 years ago, and Facebook is saying that's the factory that made the paint that I spilled on my bedroom carpet in 1996? I'm confused.

Ok,

I just bought five of the little bottles of enamel at the local hobby shop near my grandson in Houston. Of course they don't say 10 Cents or 15 Cents on the lid like most of mine do but they had a good supply and selection. They had some items on clearance and the guy said Testors recently announced that it was discontinuing its Model Master acrylic, Pactra spray and Aztek airbrush paint but planned to continue everything else.

Had the Testers kit for all the models I used to build…even my sons used them in the ‘90’s!

You really had money if you used the Testers spray can paint!

Even had the Cox Planes… had trainer(the one with the rubber bands so when it crashed it would survive) and my favorite was a P40 Warhawk. Cut my finger many a time trying to start those damn planes.

Don’t think I could fly those today without getting dizzy from going in a circle with the string handle controller!

So sad to see this. Just imagine all the people that were employed here all those years. I had so many of those bottles. I actually used a nutcracker to open them!
