Replacement 68 340 four speed cams

The cop showed me his gun when I got the speeding ticket. He showed me cause I argued that it wasn’t possible.you are absolutely correct about the Speedo. I would argue with the other guy that the car did NOT have 115hp. Electric wheel chairs were faster off the line. I figured less than 60 hp, as I had an old civic later with 90hp. It took over four to five minutes just to get to 120mph. It did have tall pickup truck 15” wheels and a 2.something rear gear. Maybe less than 60hp. You couldn’t pull out in front of traffic safely from a stop. I drove the car from San Antonio, Texas to north of Jacksonville Florida when on leave, 11?? Miles across I-10 back when filling up the gas tank cost $20. Made that trip multiple times and one round trip to Baltimore.
No way did that thing have 115hp unless the torque number is high enough to raise the hp during acceleration. This was a $500 bought from family beater car.
The web says it most likely was a 7 1/2” axle with as low as 2.41, tallest gears available-isn’t that their feeble attempt at fuel economy against Honda, Datsun, and Toyota at the time? The tires I would say were over 30” diameter, and I believe that they were off of grampa’s pickup, 15 inch rims, as tall of tires as my uncle could buy.
The tires would not allow full turning radius and were difficult to get into the wheel well.
I stand by 135mph.
I honestly don’t know how it had enough power to do it.

RPM calculators show less than 3700 rpm for a three speed auto, 2.41 gears, 30” tire. It was more than 3700 rpm, I was standing on my right foot. It took a fraction of an hour to get to that speed.
