Hello all, I am at the tail end of getting my brother's 1971 Demon 4 speed back on the road after sitting for 4/5 years. Reason for sitting was that the last time he ran it, both the engine and dash harnesses smoked/burned and he removed them both. He's lucky whole car didn't burn. I have gotten the engine compartment done with some members help and I am preparing to put a 1972/3 Dart automatic dash harness in soon. I have it 90% figured out and modified for the instillation. I have some manuals but not all of them. Answers to these questions would assist me with what's remaining.

Are there any more mistakes in the 1971 Dodge manual schematic besides Bulkead positions 'L' and 'T' reversed? There are some errors in the rear connector positions also....but I can just match the wire positions by color as they are the same?

I'm stuck on the Auto Door Switches. 1971 and 1972 have 3 wires to the drivers door switch....and 2 wires to the passenger door switch. My newer harness has 2 wires to drivers door and a single wire to the passengers door. I don't believe this newer harness is missing any wires. The 1971 and 1972 Manual schematic has 3 Driver and 2 Passenger. I looked in a 1973 Manual Schematic and it showed a 2 wire (driver) and a single wire (pass). Apparently the ground goes through the shell of the switches to the frame, reducing the additional wire. Question is will this 2 wire, 1 wire system work with the original 1971 door switches that I'm using? I can't believe that the switches changed but there are members who know the answer.

I would like to know what this connector on the newer harness is for? It also seems to have a light? Wires to it are all blue. A console maybe?

And can someone tell me the exact year of my new harness by the Fuse Box? It has 7 positions and the 1971 and 1972 Manual schematics show 6 Position Fuse Boxes. Maybe its a late 1972? Or a schematic error? It was advertised as a 1972. Or is it a 1973 Harness? The 1973 Manual I have shows 7 positions for the fuse box. Thanks for all who take the time reading this,

Don't know if it can help, but thanks to one of the FABO forum members, I replaced my '71 dashboard harness some months ago.

Here is a picture of a '71 Demon original harness
It's not very clear, but the driver side door switch seems to have two wires, and the passenger door switch only one.

1971 - 1972 switches are different from 1973.
71-72 switch:
Front Right 2 terminal 2947844
Front Left 3 terminal 3488435

73 switch:
Front Right 1 terminal 2983168
Front Left 2 terminal 3488875

Connector with blue wires goes to seat belt buzzer and light bulb socket is for seat belt warning lamp.

Mid year changes for the Instrument panel wiring harness for the 1972 model year.
Service manuals were published before any mid year changes took place so there is no diagram for the later harness.
For the 1972 model year:
Up to Nov. 71 3588068
After Nov. 71 3588482
For 73 only one harness used 3588610

Geez....not a response. Someone has to have some info to help me out. These issues can't be that unique.
Uh, Yea they are. Not many try to install a later harness or harnesses into an earlier car. I'm sure it can be done at least for some models, but its quite a puzzle.

As helpful as a wiring diagram can be, in some way a harness diagram will be even more useful. Plymouth included som partial diagrams in the 71 service manual . I would expect Dodge did the same in 71 for Darts and Demons. @French demon's photo is a nice equivalent for a whole harness diagram.

Different door switches for 1973 and up explains a lot. I'm glad I didn't rush to put the new harness in yet. Exceptional info on Mopar part numbers, I will look at the harnesses for numbers this weekend. Hopefully the 1973 and up switches are available through someone and are the same threaded size. If a reliable seller of these is known by any member, please make a recommendation to me. Changing the harness wasn't really that bad, but I guess I'll have a more accurate opinion when I see it work. Thanks for the helpful info to the responders.
