there are many new design of hydraulic roller lifter these days that fit the older engines without modification to the oiling system...

MRL has them
Hughes has them
IMM has them...

take your pick...and your probably can find a better price than what is shown at compcams.

A long as there's a mechanism in place to keep the lifter from rotating, you can run rollers in damn near any motor out there.

The taller lifter may create bizarre pushrod angles, but it can work.

Is it possible to use roller lifters in a non-roller block? I remember reading it wasn't recommended to use roller lifter in a non roller block because of the taller lifter body.

I have seen that Comp Cams is making retro-fit roller lifters for engines that originally had a flat tappet cam. Anyone running these?

If your using hyd. roller cam, use Hughes roller lifters.
If your using solid roller cam, use Comp 8043-16 lifters.
I have not used MRL's lifters, so I cannot speak for them, but I know the above lifters work without any problems.
Mike if you read this, do you have any longtime feedback on your lifters? Any pics of high mileage or so many passes on some that we can see? Help us out!

Unless you have money in the block, you may as well just get a newer one, they sport 2pc seals, and bores that can take a beating.

I have a set of comp 8043-16s that have almost 6000 street miles and 40 1/4 passes on them and they are doing great.
I also have a BB street car that has crower solid rollers and they are holding up great also.
If you are going to run a solid roller cam you need to use very good valve springs, rockerarms and pushrods.
I check the lash from time to time on both of my motors but the lash just does not move.

Our SBM Pro Sports are doing great. We have several sets that have been in street use for 1 1/2 seasons not with 1000's of miles, no issues. Our design has already been proven on the track with a ton of SBC's running the .904 lifter in circle track racing.

The SBM Pro Plus is in manufacturing right now and we will be offering it in centered and offset intake seats.

There are issues with the 8043 on some of the older blocks that have the deep chamfer at the top, the oil band will be uncovered and you will lose oil pressure because of it. Our lifters are designed to not do that. See pic of an Comp 8043 in a 340 block
