Blue, one of our Redbone Coonhounds

had a rough one yesterday. Was out in the yard for a while. He came in and was walking on three legs. But he was not really limping. He was trying to kick something out of his pads on his one back foot. Ernestina took a look, he had a dried up bee hive stuck in his foot. She dug it out, but of course he tried to play the sympathy card for a while. Fast forward a few hours and we had a power failure. Power was out for a while. Went to feed him in the dark and he was besides himself. Other 2 dogs chowed like normal. I had to get a flashlight and sit with him to get him to eat. This is the fellow that needed a night light to get thru the garage when we lived in AZ. And if by some chance I parked the car on the right side of the garage instead of the left I would have to go and help him thru the garage. If I backed the car in it would put him in freak out mode. To this day he has troubles with the doggy door. He will watch it go up and down half a dozen times before going thru it....often times he waits for it to come down and then tries to go thru it...the door coming down on his back sends him into a panic. Can dogs have OCD?

Poor guy.

Maybe he has vision issues.

He's cute! Some dogs are just knuckle heads. Our dog Lucy (black lab mix that we rescued last year) found a ground beehive two weeks ago and decided to attack it. She had a swarm attacking her and she ran about 20 feet away from it and started rolling on the ground and snapping in the air. I couldn't see what she seemed to be attacking from my spot 50 feet away, so I called her to come over to me but she just sat Where she was. When I went over to check her out, I saw the bees and took my sandle off and beat the bees off her. She gave me a 'why are you hitting me daddy?" look of confusion. When I got the last bee off of her, she got up and went back to attack the hive again! Then I had to beat the new bees off of her again. She limped back to the house after that. The first thing the next morning, she went back to the ground hive to see if they were still there.

It's cute that your guy needs a night light!

When he started getting goofy in AZ had the vet check him out...said everything appears to be normal but that was a while ago. At times I know he does not pay attention to things. I give them carrots with there food in the a.m. Some days he catches all of them. Some days they bounce off of his head. He is also not one for finding stuff by scent. If the carrots end up under the table, where he can not see them, he just stands there. After everybody is done eating his half brother goes under the counter and pushes stuff around til he finds the wayward carrots. Blue has always been strange. He will often go outside, stand by the gates and howl. When he hears his echo he will look the other way, as if he is looking for another dog. He is a great dog. He has changed a lot since we retired & moved out to the country. One thing that has not changed is he HATES water. Wife will be outside playing with our cattledog with the hose and Blue will not even go outside. If it is raining, he will refuse to go out. If I go out sometimes he will follow, normally he just stands in the door way watching the rain fall. Same thing with the snow....
