It is important to understand what the Vega is, or was. It is THE aircraft that put the rejuvinated Lockeed back in business. The originals were all wood, and in their day were revolutionary aircraft.

That is one badazz cool plane!! I love the look of old planes...don't know much about em, but love the way they look too!! Geof

LOL We complain about the cost and finding parts for A bodies of all things. Think about restoring something that there was only ever 9 of in the world, and now only 1 (To fly, anyway). You MAKE parts, LOL

I love old planes.
Just think, that back in the day, this one was cutting edge technology.

Yup. These were first built in the mid twenties. They broke a lot of ground back then. A quote and photo from this page:

http://www.thisdayinaviation.com/4-july-1927/

"The Vega was a very state-of-the-art aircraft for its time. It used a streamlined monocoque fuselage made of spiral strips of vertical grain spruce pressed into concrete molds and held together with glue. The wing and tail surfaces were fully cantilevered, requiring no bracing wires or struts to support them."
