I received my crank yesterday. I'm a lil surprised to how much material they removed on the throws. Heres some pics of 7/8 but 1/2 look identical. The last pic is what the unmolested 3/4 5/6 look like.

Is this normal?

The 3rd pic is at a poor angle...

Yes, that's normal. They leave the counterweights large so they can be easilly internally balanced, but they sill have to basically get the crank "in balance too". Some are cut much further... I'm guessing that's the cast 4"?

Fwew.... Ok, thanks moper.

One other question... Is it normal for a crank to be shipped without any center support? This is the way my crank came, just end supports. Is it just a myth that a crank will sag or warp if layed on its side?

Most cranks are shipped in a double-wall, double thick box. Usually the snout has a some extra coerving but generally they don't have any other special protection. I don't feel it's a myth but you'll see.read that it is myth, and it is fact...lol In terms of these cranks, you're talking about a crank that is much stronger than stock. I know of factory cranks (cast) that may have warped over long term, but it's just as likely something hit it, or it fell at some point. They really need to take a lot of abuse, so supporting their own weight is not a big deal.
