Schumacher SL1314 12v 600 Peak Amps Compact Battery Jump Start

One like it. They work good.

would it start a diesel truck if battery was dead ?
I bet not

It says it's not even rated for v8s
Let alone a v8 that runs 2 to 3 times as high a compression as a gas engine

would it start a diesel truck if battery was dead ?
That depends. Mine is a 700 cca jumper and has started a diesel or two. If everything is right it may start it. Old engines, bad starters and cables, and cold temps and probably not. If you figure most diesel pick up's have 2 batteries and semi's have 4, starting one with a battery you can hold in the palm of your hand is a pretty tall order.

Guy was trying to tell me it would this weekend , I found that pretty hard to believe but, he was sticking to the story .. Not really interested to spend $100 to find out

I have a friend who has a similar one. His Dodge diesel truck (6.7 not sure of the year) had a bad battery for a little bit until he could get it in to get it replaced. He's come over in it a few times. It would just click when he tried it and he jumped it off each time. The last time, his jump box didn't have enough because it needed charging. Even though the truck would not turn over with the started it had enough to charge the jump box for about 15 minutes and jumped it right off. So yeah, the one he has starts a diesel.

Here is the one I got. Bought it off the clearance rack for $20. It started my LS1 Transam twice with a completely dead battery. I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it. My phone is an iPhone plus for comparison.

I did a some ohms law math on it.
It has an 8 amp hour battery. That’s 480 amp minutes (8 amps x 60 minutes). So that means you could probably use half that energy at near full voltage, about 240. If you figure your car takes about 300 amps for about 10 seconds (60 amp minutes) to start, then you should be able to start your car 3 or 4 times on one charge. This is just a rough calculation, but gets the idea across.

Not only is it powerful, but you can leave it in your glove box for months without losing much charge.

My ‘02 Cummins dodge is currently dead in the water with 2 dead batteries. If this thing would jump start it I’d be sold. I’d like to try one.

I can’t even jump start it from another running truck, (89 chevy)

I could not start my SC400s dead battery (radio ran it down) with #4 jumper cables off a running minivan. Towed it home, charged the battery all night and it started right up the next day. We used to jump start our work trucks on a "power wheels" 12V8AH battery out of a FiOS power supply. Just let them set on the battery for about 10 minutes and if your lucky itll kick over with fuel in the carb or EFI. That power pack is amazing. I think LiPo batteries have the edge as they can really belt out their power quickly in very high amp situations. Lead acid, not so much?
