Sealant for exhaust studs w/headers

What do you all use to seal the exhaust studs that go into the water jacket.
I've used pipe dope on the timing cover but I think it's burning up in the heat. I don't want to tighten the studs down too hard.

Can I use this stuff for intake manifold bolts too? Have oil working it's ways up the bolts.
