What should be expected of their functionality?

How do I test them?

The Dodge Aspen I am building- should the overhead belt lock upon a sudden hard pull?

My 91 civic-the recoil(?) mechanism hardly works-does this make it unsafe/need replacing in case of an accident?

Thank you.

Yeah, I would certainly think it one does not recoil it's not very safe. Imagine if it has slack in it and God forbid you have an accident. You kinda get a head start on movement if the belt is not tight against you.

About the Aspen belts. I am not sure if they are inertia activated or not. Maybe some of these guys will know more. I think they should be, but I am not certain.

At any rate, what is the Aspen, 30 years old? Older? Probably not a bad idea to replace them with new ones anyway.....if you can find them. Might can find something new that will swap in with minimal effort.
