Sell 318 for this 340?

-
Keep in mind it will have to be torn down, inspected and reassembled, and anyone selling a "rebuilt" motor should understand that so basically you would be buying a engine worth of parts unless there are receipts and documentation from a legit source.

Just a FYI reason for him to give it to you for somewhat less. :D

Price isn't bad, if it is in fact rebuilt. That's the hard thing to find out. See if the owner will let you remove the oil pan and heads. That way you can see the bearings and bore wear, etc.

It's a bit "dirty" for a recent Rebuild
JMO.

I don't like payin for other peoples claims. Why isn't it in a car?

An 'engine worth of parts' is the right way to look at it. Based on that, the price is a bit high. No way to know either if something is internally broken.

Which MP 'purple' camshaft?

^good advice^ For the price, he shouldn't have any problem letting you pull a rod cap to check out the rod bearings (look at cylinders 3-5), plus you can also look at the cross hatching of the cylinder walls. Look at the exhaust ports for signs of oil residue, which is a sign of oil consumption. Better if you can hear it run first. Also look at the block numbers to be sure it's really a 340. You can't put together what he's selling for the price (especially if carb/ignition are included), but if he won't do the above, you just buying unknown parts.
