I know there is this thing, but I can't remember what it is called. If you want to attach a nut to sheet metal but don't want to weld it, there is something you can drill a hole then securely attach a nut for future installations.

What the heck is that thing called?

Its called a rivsert or rivnut.

The install tool usually comes in a kit with different heads for different rivets.

I have used them for multiple purposes where a part or panel may be removed in the future.

There's no need for a special tool if you don't plan on installing a bunch of them.


Home made and handy! Pretty slick! I need to put a couple of those in my firewall for the voltage regulator to bolt to. Without the black silicone sealer of course.
