When racing a very mild 318, What is a good rpm to shift at?
Performer intake
carter carb
Flowtech headers
carb spacer
full exhaust
 

You generally need to shift about 500 rpm's higher than peak TQ as this way the engine always comes back to peak TQ and will pull much harder. The 318 that I sold had a 280H cam from comp and I shifted it at 6,000 and went through at 6,000 rpm's.
 
I have the comp xe284h in my stroked 340(372)My max hp is at 5700rpm so thats where I shift.it does,nt make any more power after that.(452)hp.
