    Hi everybody:

My shocks seem to be getting in the way of my new gas tank install. It's a Spectra tank so it should work. Do you have to take the shocks out or do you bend the seems on the tank and give it a bash or two?

Assuming they sent you the right tank you shouldn’t have to take the shocks out, there’s clearance there when the tank is installed. You may have to fold the seam a little bit, usually that’s done by the tank manufacturer but you may have to improve on what they’ve done. You may also have to tilt the tank into its final position, they don’t always just go straight up into place.

      Air shocks?

If so, some have large covers & they can interfere with the tank. Quick fix can be as easy as mounting them upside down.

No I think the problem may be me. I measured the old tank and this one this one is 1/4 inch longer but big deal and the part number checks out so I'll take the shocks out and try again

Shocks should not hit unless they are air shocks or (bigger than normal) load levelers.

I've always removed the shocks to change the gas tank on an A-body. They are just in the way.

Wrong tank or overload shocks. And no you don't turn them upside down!

Me and Evan didn't have to take the shocks off my 64 when we took the tank out or put it back.
