My 70 Dart needs new shocks. The shocks currently on the car are pretty old and the car rides very rough. The car sits up a little higher in the rear than the stock stance as it has MP xhd springs. The springs have been on the car for 17 years and I was told at the time I put them on that the back of the car would eventually settle down some as the springs got broke-in but it never did. Because of this, I'm thinking maybe I should get B or C-body shocks that would be a little taller so as not to be stretched out so much. Your thoughts please.

It's funny I was just thinking I want the rear of my car up a little...but not enough where the snubber wont work...

I don't really care that the rear sits up. That's not my question and I'm used to it like that anyway. I just want opinions on my question about shocks.

well in that case Id think first you'd have to figure out if your shocks fully extend in either direction and go from there, I recall you could take measurements to determine the length of the replacement shocks to figure out if they are operating properly and not bottoming out and over extending. I think that with the car sitting the shock should be resting in a centered orientation with respect to full suspension travel etc.

Or
You could just take the shock off the lower pin, and stroke it up/down, to see where it is normally riding, relative to the limits.
Back in the day, I could buy, range-extenders that bolted onto the bottom of the shocks.
One inch of compression should be plenty.
Or
You could just take the shocks right off, and roadtest it, to see if the shocks are in fact the source of the rough ride.

Missed it by that much; treed by Dartswinger

'xhd'. Extra Heavy Duty? If so, that is causing the rough ride & no shock in the world is going fix a harsh ride caused by stiff springs.
