another dumb yankee question where is the date code and vin on a slant
i did see the stamping on the rt front top of block....got 198 out of it

Yeah it's the chinese version of "HEI" that's not HEI. It uses a Bosch knockoff module. Good luck.

chinese slant 6 hemi 6 holden 6 distributor modeled after a range of Australian Bosch distributors. they just machine the housing and shaft to different lengths (a tiny difference) for each motor.

Uses a chinese clone of an australian bosch 4 pin HEI. the original module was called a BIM024 if you feel the urge to replace it with a reputable brand..gonna cost ya $54 + import and shipping though.... probably licenced from delco or motorola by GM Holden and made by bosch in Oz.

check that the pickup coil only moves with the vacuum advance
pickup coil can be replaced with oem parts

advance can be limited by bending end stops

nylon gears seem to be ok
think you can probably use an australian OR a slant 6 cap on it.

i have one
but then i noted that you can get a full HEI for a Jeep for $98.

so i took a cheapo chinese one of them
took off the crap chinese coil in cap, cap and its rotor arm
replaced the rotor arm and cap with 1976 chevy truck parts
replaced the module with a known brand
replaced the condenser and connectors with a remote coil wire set
cut off the end of the drive
put on my hei6/slant 6 nylon drive
purchased exactly 4mm of shim washers to lift it slightly for my hemi 6 block
and am waiting for 0.5mm shim steel so i can centre it in the bore in the block i.e the base is 1 mm narrower than the hole it need to go in

when done i'll see if it works..... it was an "i find myself alone and nobody left me any tasks to do" project on sunny afternoon.
went this way due to ease of configuration you can mess with all advance features without removing or dismantling the distributor
i could not get my engine works ignition products one apart due to every internal allen headed miniature bolt being rounded off during production.

i mention it as an alternative cheap chinese solution. an alternative in case the one you have doesn't quite do the job. dunno about fitting that big fat distributor head in beside everything else on a slant 6......beware
already use the chevy inline 6/ ford remote hei coil....that you can pickup from rock auto/ebay for $20

black 1970s standard motor products cap makes it look smarter and less crap.. i think... :)

You could probably get an original re-built unit from "halifaxhops" on this forum. I would rather have factory stuff than poor quality aftermarket junk. The one you have may be OK but, I doubt it. I just got the info for a slant six that I have from this site. Right front block rail has engine info stamped in & right rear of block, same area, should have last few VIN numbers. clean up the areas good to see all the numbers then ask for their meaning on the slant six forum. Someone there will help with that, they helped me.

Yeah think I'm just going to find a oe dist that came with electronic ignition
Then carry a box when I go on Long drives

Just got a text
Truck cap has paint ...pics tonight

My recommendation would be to get the slant six "stock" electronic distributer, and do the HEI conversion. No mopar "box", and no ballast resister. Inexpensive, and trouble free, with good spark. Lots of info on this site on the conversion.

@halifaxhops can set you up. He had HEI plates made to mount the modules under the distributor body. A slick modification.

Or a stock points distributor converted with a Pertronix kit.
I have no personal experience with the Pertonics kit, but understand they are pretty good. The main issue I have with using it, is if something should fail, would probably have to order parts. With the HEI the parts are available at just about any part store.

Yes I'm all over hei ..easy to find and as long as not Chinese its a reliable part
Think i would put a heat sink on the fender or some place easy to access
Plan to drive it to places a couple of hrs away and can always carry an extra mod and swap in 10 min

You can never guarantee but, I only remember hearing about a couple Pertronix failures on these car sites in the last 10 years or so. They are virtually trouble free. The Pertronix 1 is a simple magnetic pick up. The failures with electronic ignition "usually" happen in the module, control box, or ECU.

Thanks Mike. Petronix I is a hall effect yes it uses magnets on the reluctor to trigger it. Good system.

Heres the slant mod link

Yea really thinking need to mount it on the firewall I seen someone made a nice finned heat sink .....
Easy enough to wire
What year did Mopar go electronic
With out lean burn

Im getting cab back this week
Still months away from this thing running
And its busy season .....keep me posted..
