Should I start a U tube channel?

More detailed info on the work being done in video's?

  • You bet, the drama between the cast members is annoying.

  • Nah, there's enough of that crap already

  • Don't give a crap one way or the other.

I'm considering the idea of doing a Youtube channel with more in depth details on some things we don't usually see on most people's video's and car related shows.
Most video's you see a part sitting on a work table, and when they come back from a commercial it's in the car.

I don't know about you guys, but I like to see more detail on what it took to do it and some of the things to watch out for instead of it being mostly an advertisement for some aftermarket companies parts.

Obviously some of you are somewhat beyond some of the stuff we see on TV or the internet.
I consider myself one of those, but I still like watching them.
If you think you might like a Youtube channel that goes into more detail on some of the normal things we do, or would like to do on vehicles in general please say so, as I am really considering doing it if the interest is what I feel it would be.

I started mine just to show demonstrations on what I was doing on the "low dollar 318 build". The first 2 years I didn't care about it other than posting the videos here, but lately it's become fun even though I still use it a lot for my threads here! I say start one....

I think you should. There's a lot of things that even new or young people don't know how to do to these old Mopars. Tuning, adjusting carb, tracing basic electrical.etc...

Yes I have been considering starting a new one for car related videos I have one now but i share it with my wife and there is a bunch of videos of the kids and their stuff. That is how I upload videos here. I'd like a new one dedicated to car stuff

Yep go for it, never can have to much information and everone has there own way of doing things, chuck one up and see how it go's.

Yes start the YouTube Channel, it will all come together as you go along.

Good feeback will keep you going, and you will learn valuable things that are useful in the future. Great to share your knowledge . . Creates good Karma.

be great if u stick to mopars all the way too .
Keep us informed !

I say go for it. For me the best part of YouTube is reading the comments lol.

Yea I enjoy that too lol

Yea, the comment part of it gives me a little apprehension to be honest.
There are a lot of people that are A holes just for the sake of being an A hole.
Not scared of it, just might take it a little too serious.

This whole stay at home thing has given me some inspiration to do it.
I could die and it all be lost to the wind, and I'm at my best and in my element around the cars so why not.

Thanks

Yep. Pretty much have to have one to post videos here anyway.

I also have a server service with tons of perks that we used for our business.
That business I am gradually tapering off now, so that server could be used for some of that as well.
I even have a free www address (domain) coming from them so I am set there without any extra expense.

There you go, now you are recognizing this stay at home thing is a new opportunity, uncorking all kinds of new ways that people will be doing things in the future.

I always say that the found gold is in the secondary spinoffs of the original ideas that we take on and go after. Had we not taken on the original quest, we would be giving up on the gold that follows.

Yea the comments would bother me too.
I try not to care what others say or think but I'm lying if I say I don't. I got a lot of negative feedback on my floorpans when I posted them on Facebook and it bothered me a little not that I thought what they where saying was true or relevant it just pissed me off that I worked my *** off on them for three days straight them some keyboard warrior who has never even worked on a car, they are 40 years old living in their moms basement eating cheetos and watching how to videos and that makes them a pro, takes the time to put down my hard work pisses me off. Then you have your "why didn't you buy it" or "that's not the correct way" guys they piss me off too. For the longest time I wouldnt post anything related to my car on Facebook because of that but I have a few friends that live out of state that wanted to see my progress.

I didn't want to come off as some newby knowitall or something like that.
After being around for awhile I got more comfortable with the people and them with me hopefully.:D

Ha ha, I used to co Admin/moderate two offroad websites so I know how people can be, believe me.
That's where the name TrailBeast came from.
I'm not so much damaged by others actions, words or opinions as I can hold my own there, but I try and am I think, fairly gentle on others for the most part and see no point in belittling someone unless they are being a dick and won't stop it.

I do joke around a lot though, and sometimes tease people a little too much.

I watch a lot of videos with content such as you are considering

Lunar outlaw’s garage
Uncle Tony’s garage
Thunderhead289 (young guy that loves carburetors)
Watch Wes Work (not Mopar, mostly trucks).
Red Neck Restorations. Jeff Bradshaw
So I have the following suggestions:
*Keep your Introduction very short or nonexistent (lunar outlaws is too long, RNR is fine).
* edit and edit more. You say you want to show detail and the nitty gritty and that’s good. But we don’t want to watch you remove every bolt from a valve cover.
* use a tripod. I need Dramamine for that POV stuff.
* don’t need a selfie stick.
* no music, except the Intro. ( why people put that incessant chicka chicka music in the background while they talk is beyond me)
* wear a mic. If you use only the mic on the camera, the volume changes as you walk around. It’s ok for bench work.
* the comment section can be annoying but viewers can ask questions there.
* I hope you have a decent speech pattern. Saying “umm” or “ahh” every other sentence breaks up the flow of the video.

There’s my critique. Probably as valuable as the bytes it took to type it.
All the best to you. Appreciate your input on this forum.

I would not hesitate to do it. I posted a two minute bird video (Oriole pair with hatchlings) and it has 33,000 views in six years-did not advertise it or anything.

(the bird video always shows up on the first page of any search using "calandria palmera" there is no audio)

I totally agree on every point you made.
In fact I'm printing this out right now to help keep some of this close.
I have done seminar speaking and security talks for large groups, so I think I have the speech flow part ok.

I also watch a lot of those same shows and know exactly what you mean about the (what's supposed to be background music) but is just annoying as hell when they have the background music too loud, or even on at all most times.
I watch Cletus and Cars quite a bit, because they at least explain what they are doing and it's kind of fun watching those young guys having what look like the time of their lives doing it.
Cletus has some drive and apparently the money to back it, but I don't hold that against him.:D

Thank you for the advice.

I got a twisted sarcastic sense of humor, so I get a kick out of the comments section at times. It's like reading the funny pages. No different than some threads on here. Some I get involved in, some I dont and theres some the mods wish i hadn't lol.
You've got a great sense of humor and a thick skin. Those attributes, together with your skills will make for a good channel. I'll disagree to keep it mopar only. Do whatever you are comfortable confident with...cars, bikes, computers...whatever.
Good luck!
