Show That Lowered A-body!

-
This shows a 245/45/18 wheel with the suspension sitting on the bumpstops. This is not feasible with the factory suspension without keeping the fender well above the tire. It might be close with a narrower wheel. This one is 8.5 or 9". (edit: 8" with 6" backspace that I adjusted to 5.7" with spacers). The section width of the tire is 9.5".

Lots more pics exploring the limits in my build thread starting with post #30.

The earlier info by autoxcuda was basically verified on my Dart, except that no fender mod would be necessary.

What's the backspacing on that rim?

What is the exact rim width?

just saw this thread, so here ya go....

some guys wanted to see these on the car once i got them mounted, so here's some pics.

they're 17x7 streeters w/4.25 bs sbp. tires are 205/45/17 frts, and 245/45/17 rears.

the car has an 8 3/4 axle out of a 68 barracuda, and has been lowered 2 inches. other than that there are no mods....total width of the rear tires is 9.4 inches, frts. are 8.10 inches. there are no problems with the fitment.

i actually thought the frt. tires would be a little taller, they were advertised at 24.3 inches, but came in at 24. rears are 26 inches.

hope this answers some questions with these wheels on an early a.

Ha! I love that! The blackout on everything looks so mean!

To my eyes, the early As when lowerered go from ehhhh...
to way cool.

I agree 100% had no interest in the early A's until I saw one lowered. That's when I got the bug for one.

Couple pics of mine. Turned down torsion bar adjuster up front, 1" torsion bars, SS springs in back with drilled front spring hanger. Still has some rake to it, 225/50 in 17*7 up front, 275/50 on 17*8 on back.

I love the look of these cars lowered and I actually like some of the rims but I gotta say I would never drive one in a million years.

Why? Because my Dart doesn't always stay on the road :D
