signs of a bad steering box or ps pump?

so for a while now ive noticed an odd griding sound when i trun my wheel all the way (left or right) when i take sharps turns and such. i thot at 1st it was somthin like the tires rubbin on the body but theres no signs or rubbing. could my steering box or ps pump bein going bad?

Possibly but suggest focusing on the belts first (try pulling the belt off and checking it).

forgive my ignorance but...what belt! haha i dont quite know how everything under my hood works soo yeah

You have a seperate belt for the power steering pump. By removing it the steering will become much harder (two hands), but you will take the pump out of the equation. If the noise goes away, it's the pump. By the way, when you "turn the wheel all the way" you aren't holding it against the stops are you? That pump will complain (make noise) if you do that. Try backing off an inch.

i know it makes a hiss wen turnd ti the stop. thats not the noise im worried about. its a rough grinding sound
