I went to check the engine oil in my 1973 Duster today, and to my surprise, the engine oil dipstick was a few inches shorter than the last time I saw it a week ago, and the tip was curved. I don't know how it would have hit the crankshaft, but apparently it did. Whatever.

So I need a new engine oil dipstick. The sheet metal "stick" part was about 20 inches long. Or if you have a different length dipstick / tube assembly, that'll work too. I'll just change my tube if it is a different length.

Write here or PM me.

You'll need to change the angle of your existing tube if you reuse it. It's fairly common for that crank interference problem to happen. I pulled one engine apart years ago and found 6 dip stick ends in the pan!

If the engine was turning the right way, I don't know how it would have bent the dipstick in the first place. Maybe it spun backwards a bit during one of its rough shutdowns with the old carburetor? Anyone got a dipstick / tube assembly?

Forward or backward, the crank to dip stick clearance would be the same. It's the angle of the tube that's critical. If you use the same tube, slide the "new" dip stick SLOWLY into the engine while it's running. You'll feel it if it hits the crank. Bend the tube slightly and try again until it doesn't hit.

I can’t remember if this is from an early a body, or a later a body. I’ll do $40 plus shipping on it. I use pirate ship so it should be reasonable.

Not a real early one....those have a very short tube. They made several different ones through the years. If it came from a car, it should work as a set.

Is that tube bent that much originally, or did someone bend it more? I don't know if that's right for my Slant Six, its tube is straight.
