The numbers on the right side of the head on my slant six read G 225 T 7 1 can someone shed some light on these numbers. Trying to find out the manufacture year and if it’s a solid cam or hydraulic

That's not on the head, it's on the block deck surface. It means it's a 225, other than that, I don't know more. @slantsixdan can tell you for sure.

In 273 speak, the letter was the year after introduction, ie A was 65, B was 66 etc. If the 225 followed suit, G would be 67. I'm probably way off.

TO figure out the solid or hydraulic question, post a photo of each side of your valve cover. There were way more solid cams than juice, and it's easy to tell by the shape of the valve cover.

I’ll have to get some pictures, off the top your head. What’s a major difference I could look for?

Or, just take the valve cover off and look. If the rockers have adjustment screws, it has solid lifters, mechanical cam. If no adjusters, you have a hydraulic setup.
      jus sayin......

I agree......that is unless someone put a hydraulic cam and lifters somewhere in the past. Course, that's probably a slim to none chance. But as old as these old girls are now, you just never know.

I'm pretty sure you have solid lifters. That is a drool-tube head, which is all but guaranteed to be solids. The juice valve covers have a dent in the forward passenger corner, as shown in the photos. Since you have the engine out, the super simple solution is pop the valve cover off and look. These engines are 40-50 years old, who knows what was swapped around. As mentioned above, if the rockers have screws on them, it's a solid cam. If not, it's a hydraulic.

          G: Engine built for a 1971-model vehicle
          225: Engine displacement
T: Built at Trenton Engine Plant
          7 1: Built on Thursday 1 July 1971

So it was built as a solid-lifter, forged-crank 225 engine.

Pulled the valve cover, it’s a solid lifter. Thanks

Points ignition ended in 1972, I think. Plus the spark plug tubes ended 1976??
