I was reading the post on another forum, and part way down someone mentioned a shim that goes somewhere on the front of the camshaft. I'm not aware of any such spacer, but the poster even shows a foto of it (see post #3).

"You're missing the cam thrust plate, 3 bolts, and an oil deflector! (Add) There is also a "shim" (last photo to right) goes on the nose of the cam. This measures .161" and the plate in the photo below measures .157", this sets the end play at about .003"/.004". This all keeps the lifters in the correct position on the lobes!

Can't put the cam in these SB (LA) Mopar's without these pieces!!"

mopar camshaft end play

I have never seen one ether, if the cam has movement front to back it will need to be fixed because it will hurt the lifters and will not hold the timing true.
I also run a collar on the dist shaft to keep the oil pump drive shaft from moving up and changing the timing.

Dudes got something wrong there. The thrust plate controls that.

That's why it's called the thrust plate.

Everyone above has got this handled. The dude on that other web site doesn't know what decade he's in! That stuff was used on the early "hemi" style timing components (regarding the collar), yeah it exists but not for your application.

Been playing with Mopar small black cod for 32 years and counting.
Never ever seen or heard of one ever!
Never needed to use such a thing because the cam end plate does the job.
Worn parts are swapped out for good parts.
