What is the difference between an early A body small block k member and one for a 1972 A body? I want to swap a 360 into a slant 6 car.

the frame width is different Early A to 67 and newer A body. bound to be other issues too.

What car are you trying to put a 360 into.

there are conversion mounts for 67 and newer SB v8 into 67 and newer slant 6 K frame.

I seem to recall that Early A used the same K for slants and V8s but that needs to be verified

I have a k member here. How do I tell what it's for. I know it's for an A body. Just not sure what years it will work for. I do know it's not a spool mount k frame.

Post a photo from above and post the mounting hole to mounting hole dimensions.

These dimensions are NOT center to center.

67 to 76

The early A and 67+ A-body K frames are different widths. By about 2" IIRC, the early A's are narrower. You can use @Dana67Dart 's measurements to compare.

This is what I have. It looks different than the pics from Dana67Dart to me. Or maybe it's just me.

Would have been nice to have when I had a 75 Scamp.

It’ll fit anything 67-76, the spool mounts are a better design, and the sway bar that runs up into the K saves quite a bit of ground clearance vs the 67-72 style sway bar.

Does anything else have to be changed to swap in this k member?
the mounts that bolt to the engine

you will need the 2 thru bolts, nuts and washers
you MIGHT need the bolts, nuts and washers that bolt the mount to the engine

this post has a lot of K member info for both 67-72 and 73-76

/6 K-Frame vs. V8 K

What dana67dart said. The engine mounts have to be changed for sure.

If you have a ‘67 steering set up you’ll have to change the idler arm. Other than that, you just have to keep whatever steering set up you have complete- so, pitman and idler and center link all have to be the same year range as each other, but don’t have to match the K.

The sway bar if you have one could take some work, if you’ve got the 67-72 factory LCA’s and stock sway bar tabs a ‘73+ sway bar won’t fit them. So you either need to use the sway bar mounting tab locatio from the 73+ LCA’s (add the mounts) or use a ‘67-72 sway bar, which will mean mounting it the same way as on thr 67-72 cars. So, adding provisions to the later K for the earlier bar.

I was going to include it in the sale of my 72 Swinger / 6 car. I want to be up front on what would be involved in actually using it so the potential buyer could make an informed decision.

Lots of work.
