Small block oil mod/pump

Getting ready to start new stroker build soon. I’m using a 98 magnum block and eddy magnum heads with hydraulic roller. Looking to shift no higher then 6800. Motor will have a vacuum pump pulling around 12. Should I look into any oil mods and which oil pump should I go with? Used the high volume in last motor but not sure I really need it?

There are oil modification threads on FABO. Just type oil modifications in the search box. I would go with a stock oil pump, not the high volume one.

It's a new mellings hv pump, i only cleaned up the casting in and out, and yep the machining is pretty ordinary.

Being an old aircraft guy, I love the safety wire. Did you but the bolts, or drill them yourself?

They certainly look the part but how close are they going to be too the pan , Allen head cap screws would be twice the thickness of the shallow head bolts the pumps normally come with.

I run the high volume pump on my stroker....I would take more oil any day of the week.

If the pump in the photo is HV it wont work with a milodon pan unless you do some work to it. I run a HV pump with a smooth flat cover and flush screws and still have to grind the rear edge of the cover and screws.

I'll have to look into that, i didn't notice if mine hit the pan as i didn't pay close attention to the rear of the pump.

i used the precision pump with a milidon pan on my W5 motor. Best Machine built that motor, not sure what they did, to be honest.

Its a non issue...that is an old myth that circulates from time to time. I'm still holding good oil pressure over 7k rpm when I go through the traps in the 1/4 mile.

I made sure all passages were opened to 1/2" from the pump to the lifter galley. There were a couple pinch points in my Magnum, but not as many as my previous LA block. Radiused intersections like in the Guitar Jones thread. I also made sure the oil pump to main cap transition was a clean shot and the little gasket didn't have any hangover in that area. I also radiused the corner where the pump gears push the oil into a cavity before the 1/2" opening, and also the entry to the opening. (make sure to remove the pressure valve & spring before doing any work in the pump. and obviously, clean, clean, then clean some more)
That was about all I did, I didn't get as far as blocking and redirecting and all that. My Magnum was supplied with LA oiling to the heads, so I got lucky there.

I’ve used hv pumps with stock pans and 5 qts. And have never lost a bearing.

I take every new oil pump apart, and do the modifications shown above. My buddy took his brand new pump apart, and found machine grit inside. So even if I didn't do any mods, I would disassemble , inspect and clean
