Heading for a scenic trip across TN 64 to Chattanooga then on to Asheville for a week. Be in Chattanooga by noon. I'm wondering which route is more scenic. Not in a hurry but, want to be in Asheville by evening. Is 74/23 or 64/23 through more scenic? I know 64 section is two lane but, what about pull-offs and such on the two routes? Just driving through for the views and not really visiting the sites along the way this time. Wife says no Dart, too much flow masters for her. #-o

My vote would be 64. I drove east to west across there, and it was pretty scenic until it got dark.

If I remember correctly, there are a few pull offs along they way, up in the higher elevations.

If you spend any time in downtown Asheville while you're here, prepare yourself for the sights you'll take in. Some things just can't be unseen! As long as you can laugh.....it's better than the mall at Christmas time. Have a fun trip.

I hate to tell you this, but neither route is going to go through the Smoky Mountains. Most of that is Nantahala National Forest and Blue Ridge Mountains. It's still a beautiful drive, either way. You will get really close to the Smokies on the Northern end.
Enjoy our beloved Smokies!
