We rarely get snow here in south Texas, but it started about 9:00 PM CST last night. Our dog is 18-20 months old and has never seen snow. Late last night I took him out for his late night potty stop before bedtime. He wanted no part of it, he stepped off the patio, stuck his nose in it and went back to the door to go back inside. This morning we have about 3-4" on the ground and the dog stepped off, relieved himself and bolted back to the door. He looks at us while outside with the "WTF" look on his face. LMAO

Barely a dusting outside of San Antonio. Being from MN originally I'm laughing at how the city basically shut down.

All 3 Houston local news started coverage of the "snow" event at 4 A.M. and now at 1:30, they are still covering the event! Good part is most stayed home today, ice closed some roads and most of the wrecks were the "pro" 18 wheelers. 3-4 inches, some sleet and freezing rain, but all in all a good day. Sun is almost out here, now up N of Houston.
But S W La. is under their first blizzard warning ever!!! Our power actually comes out of La. so hope we don't lose it. It will be cold here tonight for us.

I can certainly empathize with how bad things can get and hope you all do alright. During the last "snowmagedon" our area lost something like 29 pole transformers and we were without power and city water for 4 days. Luckily we have a pool so we filled our bathtubs with water for flushing and had enough bottled water (and bourbon) for drinking. I think a lot of the "hype" this time was due to how unprepared people were last time. Better to hunker down when appropriate, but around here, this it was literally a big nothing burger. Sure was a nice drive into work though with ZERO traffic in my way! :)

Be careful, be smart and stay warm.

I agree.
Part of it all was the Tx. utilities being totally unprepared with that big freeze the other year and 75 people actually froze to death in the state. We survived with a Tx. engineered fireplace (hahahahaha) and no power for 5 days, well pump froze, and with livestock, that is an issue.

how far down is your well pump ? and it froze ?

I've only lived here just under 8 years but from my experience, nowhere in TX is prepared for cold weather. Hot weather yes, but cold is odd. There really isn't a frostline like we had in the north (4 ft depth). Houses have exposed PVC water lines come out the ground and into the side of the house. Stuff you would never see anywhere "north" so it that sort of stuff we took for granted bites people in the *** down here. I'm guessing it was the above ground exposed parts of the pump.

balmy 10 above today

I was just checking up on some of this weather and read that New Orleans has 5" of snow on the ground in places. New Orleans!

Hell, that's more than we have here in MN!

We have a jet pump, a large holding tank, and a pump to send water to the pressure tank. That pump froze and split .

I lived in Mo. for 37 years, but born/raised in S W Ga which is about like living in S E Tx. I never had a pipe bust in Mo. Always in the county with deep wells 200-450 deep, well house, NO heat there, only thing that could freeze was the little pressure pipe that went to the pressure switch. But it only froze when the wind chill was like minus 30!!
