SOLVED! 318 2500-3000 rpm idling issue.

I am having a very similar proble m with my newly rebuilt 69 340. Shot carb cleaner all over the usual suspect areas, intake to heads, carb base gasket, every vacuum port I could find. No change at idle with butterfly’s closed. The only difference is I can adjust idle with the adjusting screw but idle changes on its own periodically.
Edelbrock Air Gap manifold, Edelbrock AVS2 650, manual brakes, original distributor with Pertronics module installed, stock exhaust manifolds, stock fuel pump running around 7 psi at idle.
I need to pull and inspect the plugs, I’ll probably change them for new as these are the original from 3 years ago from the full rebuild. I’ll do that and update this post.

I agree with @crackedback Rob. If you start your own thread, it will be much less confusing. We'll be glad to jump in and see if we can help get it worked out. The first thing that jumps out at me is the fuel pressure. Edelbrocks are sensitive to fuel pressure and 7PSI is getting up there. I think Edelbrock recommends 4-5.

Everybody has you on ignore. I've been following along waiting for the leak down test or someone to suggest head gaskets. But instead, I'm seeing the same things, that hasn't worked, over and over.

full agree on the lack of true diagnostics here. you'd think somebody would actually try some good old fashioned mechanicin' before shotgunning parts at it or listening to some bozo regurgitate AI slop and post pictures that have no context or meaning to the discussion at hand.

Bust out the parts cannon and pray one of them is the actual issue. See it all the time.
Some real head scratching suggestions on places like facebook are especially bad. I question if they know which end of the screwdriver to hold.

AI garbage ack. another cesspool that needs the honeydipper/poop-pumper to make a pumping appearance for a clean out.
