"Time for Yanks in the coastal region of Southern France to sit up and take notice-lady visitors have arrived. As the ramp of this Coast Guard-manned landing barge swings down, American Red Cross women, carrying small packs and bags, jump out on the beach. Brought by Coast Guard transport from the US, they are prepared to carry out their duties and keep high the spirits of Yank fighting men."

It was Day 4 of the invasion.

The Red Cross was founded in 1866 in Bern, Switzerland. In accordance with the Geneva Red Cross Agreement and its recognition through the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The red cross was inspired by Henry Dunant mainly his book " A Memory of Solferino" he also won the first Nobel prize, and the The 1864 Geneva Convention was based on Dunant's ideas.

Yup. Women did all sorts of things during the war. Some of it fairly dangerous. The WASP outfit was one. THINK about testing and ferrying aircraft that had been rushed out of a production plant. These aircraft were not always exactly "safe." They faced a tremendous amount of hoops and prejudice from "old white men" to coin a phrase
