Son's 1973 Scamp project

-
That's so awesome, man! Do you have a thread going about it or any pictures you could post up? I'd love to see it. I love being able to spend time in the shop with my son.

No, I just really build driver's, not much to look at. This will be the third vehicle I have done with my older son ('88 Mitsubishi Montero, '02 Mustang GT ) but first REAL car, PLYMOUTH ha-ha. The plan is to use many parts from 4-door Valiant that my youngest son and I put together for his first car ( RF framerail getting bad) and swapping some parts from a Duster I bought from the same guy that sold me Scamp. Then put Duster together with other parts from Valiant for youngest. So we will have a '72 Scamp wit '70-'71 Swinger front end and '74 Duster with "72 Valiant front end. Scamp is all pulled apart at my son's crappy one car garage right now, but will soon make it's way to my shop after we pull Valiant apart. Pics are of most of cars mentioned, except Montero. I don't have any pics of Montero unfortunately, it was a cool little SUV. 4wd, 4speed, 32" tires, clean as a whistle ! It was his first car. I should have bought that sucker from him when he got tired of it ( wanted to go faster ).

BTW, I am not going to show my son your build thread, as I don't want to have to compete with yours !! Also, I too have dealt with Roy and he will be missed. He sold me a gas tank and related items for the Duster shortly before he passed. He even used one of his personal shipping discounts to save us money when he found out it was a father/son project. He also sent me items that were not supposed to be included in sale. We talked hunting and he showed me some recent trophies. Seems like he went doing what he loved. Good luck on rest of awesome build. You should be proud.

All of your projects look great to me! My sons paint was fine as is, Maaco type shop had done it, and again this time. It is far from great, it looks better in the pics. And he learned about bodywork, mostly that it is hard work!
Your Roy experience doesn't surprise me at all. He was a class act.

Road tested it. It's umm, peppy :) Stops well.
Quit a list of things to finish up, lol, but not long now. Yes the plastic fuel filter will go away.
Just wanted to see if there was any trash in the line.

Thanks for checkin in Rob! I'll tell my son! But it's a big web site, hard to keep up with everything....
We are having a ball, trying to get ready for Carlisle. We think about Roy every time we work on it.

Little progress. The plastic headliner was challenging but we managed. As I learned here, we hung it in the dome light holes and worked it in, trimming with a Dremel cut off wheel as we went.

This picture makes me wish I had re-dyed the steering wheel gold. Maybe later.

I agree that carpet layed down nice! Did you use a steamer on it???
Well sort of. Just left it out in the hot Florida sun flat for a few hours before we installed it. Then it's just been baking in the shop since. lol

My friend did a great job spraying the clear. Car looks fantastic. My son can cut and buff it after Carlisle. Someday. Maybe.
