Sound system?

-
If you find the "perfect" hed unit, but it doesn't have a jack to plug in the Ipod, you can buy an Ipod accessory that plugs into the ipod and broadcasts a signal that you radio can tune in to.

I've got an Ipod boom box in my car! that i hide behind the back seat package tray.

And to answer your question about the new sound system my .02i s that depends on whose buying the car, if you hack the dash and all the panels and ruin the carpets running wires you'll not get as much from a purist but a dumb kid(no offense dumb kids with good taste who buy mopars) will probally love it.

Well, I'm not going to make it a hack job. I will take my time and make it as clean as possible.

Yeah, I think the head unit would have to handle the door speakers, cuz I don't really want to spend extra on a 6-channel amp (or a separate 2-channel). The speakers are rated 2-35 watts RMS, so I think the head unit should be fine.

A "pause-and-reflect" question, will a nice sound system increase my Duster's value a decent amount?

Not really. Perhaps to those that can not, or will not install there own. I've seen garbage cars listed for mucho bucks with the only thing of worth being the shell of the car and the tune set up.

I'm not paying some clown for there stereo in a barely leagal roller. LOL

Yeah... I just feel kind of sick when I pause for a second and think about how much money I'm putting into a car. I mean I love my Duster, but sometimes I think I should save the money for something else.

but sometimes I think I should save the money for something else.

.................why?:-D.....
Ive been broke for the last two years of my high school carreer thanks to my duster, but it is completly worth it.

Id say focus more on body/interior, engine any way. people dont notice dusters because of their stereros. (trust me, ive had a hundred people stop me to ask what year, engine, ect...my duster was, ive never had anyone stop me to ask me what brand the cd player was)

LOL, I hear ya. BUT, once you finish up doing the tunes, you can cruise in a nice comfy zone with a good quality sound. It is so worth it IMO.

I like'en it to a good A/C system. It doesn't get used a whole lot of months by me, but when it goes on, ohhh, ooooo, Ahhhhhh, yep, it was all worth it to leave it all behind for a bit of cool.

Thanson, good point. But when it comes to that point, when the cars apearance is not important or done..........

MOPEkidD-3/rumblefish360, I agree whole heartedly. I had a discussion with the wife a few months ago when the topic of cost came up....
Her argument:
"That thing is costing us too much money"

My rebuttal:
well we paid $32k for her 06 quest new in 06 and it's now worth 23,500 and we pay approx $350 per month including insurance....and it gets 19/26mpg city/hwy.

we paid 1800 for the duster and I have about 5k into it.....15/22mpg

SO..... in the last 2 years we've paid roughly $8400 in payments and lost $8500 of value on the quest....and in the last 2 years the TOTAL cost of the duster is 5,000..and everything but the motor is brand new..NOW who's car is costing too much

even one step further...
buy a used car (some honissazda) for the same 5k and you still have regular maint AND depreciation AND its still only a POS import...

What it boils down to is that even if you put a reasonable car payment into your mopar every month you will be better off than putting that payment toward some other used car.

yep... the wife hates me when I do that

He he he he, Oooo, good one. Aint it the truth though.
The only thing that kind of stinks about owning and daily driving the old iron is sometimes, you have to wait for parts.

Thanks guys, I feel a little better now. I guess I can use the same excuse with my dad, but of course he'd just say, "and who ever said I needed to get you a car at all?"

In my car... I have the stock head unite, but not speakers anywere. How would i wire a new head unit to some speakers? I also dont have a panel in the rear, Its wide open because the back seat folds down

Off hand, I don't know how the stock wires are. There in a book somewhere, LOL!

But, with the fold down rear seat, you could mount the speakers in box's designed for 6 X 9's and ethier velcro them down or run screws into the carpet. An amp can go in the truck area on the fold down part. It would be an easy mount point, but foil the seats abilty to do what it was designed for.

I'm in. Crutchfield may even be able to provide a shaft radio that will serve as a controller for a CD changer.
The Duster package shelf is cut for 2 6x9 speakers. I didn't want to cut up a door panel, so I jumped when I saw the Paddock's A-body kick panels with Pioneer speakers. They look, fit, and sound fine.
I'm using a Panasonic CD player with 33 watts RMS per channel. Loud enough to hear clean over the dual pipes, but not to overpower the backside of the open AFB.
I cut the DIN opening in the dash at the original radio location with a Dremel tool and cut-off wheels. Use care, there's was a wire bundle on the back side of the dash below where I was cutting.
If you're still at wits end, can I interest you in a 70s vintage Automatic Radio in-dash 8-track unit? I'll check to make sure it works before I sell.

What is wrong with cutting up a door panel? Are they that hard to find? Also, where did you find a head unit with that much output? Most of the ones I find are only around 20 watts RMS.

How much would you be wanting to sell that 8-track unit?

I would tend not to worry about the posted power output of a head unit, as every manufacturer has their own way of measuring and lying about how powerful each deck is. I think they put out roughly the same amount of power of clean sounding tunes. Just because someone says their deck has 50 watts RMS dosn't mean it will sound good turned up this loud. The best thing to do (if you don't want to run an external amplifier) is to find good speakers that have high efficiency (higher dB rating).

every 3dB halves the amount of wattage needed for a speaker to play at a certain volume....

for instance, a 94dB speaker will play twice as loud as a 91dB speaker given the same amount of power.
