spark plug question

they will work fine with the new combo, they worked fine before. when raising compression ratio go colder. what is your head casting number. and a correction for some, the stock plug for a 10:1 1968-71 340 was n9YC, 8:1 72-3 340 was n12yc

My original post was a plug that was readily available at any parts store Adv,autozone or the local mom and pop. These plugs were last used in cars around the mid seventys.
your only proof is that for you you had no problems.Alot of others dont have problems with champ or autolite.I checked my local dist. and no body I mean nobody has the ngk in stock or in local distribution centers. If you have a case you must do only old ford stuff. Also if champ is for lawnmowers autolite is for ford then ngk must be for gm cause there making some for ac delco. As to where they are made at least champ and autolite are American companys and still produce some plugs here.My post to the op was they are readily available nothing else. Also if you had a problem with fouling plugs could it be that they were wrong heat range or carb problem. How many nascar teams use ngk?Alot of autolite are also made in Mexico. As i walk through the pits most use Autolite and ngk and champ.
To the original poster if the champs ran good then the Autolite should work good. And no he doesnt have to change heads or brands of cams or oils or filters for it to run good. 318willrun and others get it, some dont.Sorry for the long rant, it just seems everyone is trying to prove everyone else wrong and it aint necessarily so.Just trying to help as economically as possible.

i think I misunderstood you , I didnt realize you cant get those plugs in your area, and was thinking you meant all NGK's. I dont have a case of WR5 but do have a few strays from the days of smog. I did check and my guys have over 150 in stock, might be regional thing.

That said, I dont get paid to wave NGK's flag, but I also dont get paid pulling out plugs and replacing them in customers cars. I have had more than one engine that would foul Champions and ran perfect on NGK's. Lots of Dakota guys were big on Autolite and most switched but that was 15 years ago when magnum daks were in their hayday.

In 35 years I have not found a better plug, what you run is your choice, i just thought OP might benefit from the NGK as many old smog engines seemed to prefer them. Only my $.02 and no, cam will not affect plug, jetting will.

For years when racing BB iron headed Mopars, I ran J-8 Champions which in reality was a lawn mower plug! I use to run a set of same plugs for 2-3 seasons if I didn't have a problem that made me change them. Ran Autolites for many of years too. Hey if it works for you, run what works!
