over 20mph at steady speed needle does not jump around . Chaged the cable , same thing . Can it be the gear in the trans where the cable attaches , or can something be wrong in the speedo itself ?
Also have a vibration at 62-70 mph in 2nd and 3rd (727 ) goes away over 74 . Had the tires balanced 3 times and the diff rebuilt still the same .
Any ideas on what it could be ? Broken belt in tire ? Wrong angle drive shaft yoke ? I'm out of ideas .

Same speedo issue with an old Dodge truck. The hex end of the cable fits into a socket on the speedo. That socket rotates within a bushing (that the cable end clips to. Mine settled down after lubing socket/bushing - at least until it dried out again.

buy a tube of white grease ..LITELY lube full length of cable so the jacket gets a little lube ALSO..J

The speedometer is magnetic. There's supposed to be a gap between the stirrup and the cup, but there are springs and bearings that fail with miles of use, so the stirrup hits the cup and flings the needle.

I have been using the services of Deluxe Speedometer in Denver for most of twenty years; they have not yet failed to quickly, economically, and completely repair the speedometers I send them (though I imagine sooner or later they might call and say "We can't fix this one, it's too far gone"; it hasn't yet happened).

Mine does this as well. Im just looking to find one where all the gauges work.

Have you ever had trouble with speedo breaking during shipping . As you say it is a spring , needle and bearings .
Would like to find a replacement while mine is out of the car . Don't mind during winter but I like to drive the car in summer , need a speedometer .
I found a guy closer to me , mr heaterbox that repairs guages and they have done a great job with rallye fuel gauge and ammeter in my car . Will check prices of both .

All right , was just worried the way they play kick the field goal with packages .
