merry Christmas people. had to join your site because I need help. trying to remove speedo from my 68 gt to restore the bezel. just wont come out of the dash. speedo cable is off. must be a trick to this. any advice appreciated.

Welcome, and a Merry Christmas to you as well. Is it Christmas in Canada? LOL

Anywho, I'm not too familiar with the 68, but on mine when I originally removed it, it was kinda stuck.

Be sure ALL of the screws are removed, speedo disconnected. You may have to gently work around the outside edges with a plastic putty knife or something of the sorts to loosen it.

Like I said, mine was stuck in much the same manner after being in there for 40 years.

Just use extreme care when doing so, things are brittle with age!

Also keep in mind that the harness has been in that position for who knows how long, and they don't like to give much as a whole unit.
A lot of people have said it makes it a lot easier if you drop the column down a bit.

Yeah, that's a good point, it could be the harness is hooked into the dash via those fold over metal tangs holding up the progress

Follow the procedure in the factory service manual. Still easy to break something.
Contact pins at harness connectors is most common break. Be careful. Good luck

cool to be called a junior member at age 62. about the speedo removal would it be possible to remove bezel only.

You can once you get the assembly out.

PS, you can change the junior member thing to whatever suits your fancy. User CP, edit details.

chevies my whole life. always had a itch for mopar. a good friend of mine has 130 b-bodies from 68 to 70. finally got my first. 1968 dart gt with 440 727 and 391 8 3/4. my friend is not into a bodies but has 3 gts's for me to pick from. up here in Canada our relics are pretty rusty but I got lucky aside from quarters this car is solid. came original with slant six so its not matching numbers car. I was a finishing carpenter for 40 years so I could not help myself from wood graining the console. now I have moved along to wood graining the dash bezel. looks factory I will post pics if I can figure how to. thanks everyone for the info.

No. The instruments went into the housing then the bezel went on top then that sub assembly went into the dash then the dash went into the vehicle. Then the steering column and wheel and windshield captured the dash.

redfish do you own one of these service manuals. maybe you could take a picture of the page I need and send it to me. getting desperate here
