Speedometer Cable Drive Gear

I replaced the drive gear in my 727 to the correct size gear for my rear end gears and tire size. Now the speedometer does not function at all. What are the correct steps to replacing the gear?

............The adapter has #s on it...........u have 2 match 2 ur gear........there is a line in between the #s, it matches up with the little raised dot on the tail housing.........kim.......
