I removed and replaced my speedometer cable. After first attaching the cable to the speedometer housing, I can’t spin the pinion on the other end leading me to believe the speedo is seized.
Before I dive into removing the speedometer, thought I’d check in if anyone has shared this experience and if there was an easier solution.

Disconnect the speedo cable on the speedo head end. See if you can turn the shaft in the head. (Use the end of your old cable to turn it) If not, the cluster needs to be removed to get the speedo head out. Once out, the input shaft can usually be lubed to free it up.

One really should clean the square drive hole in the back of the instrument before cramming a new cable in it.

I unfroze my stuck 66 speedo... write up in my restoration thread here. It is not hard, but you can really screw it up if you arenot careful, patient, and methodical.
