SPLINE confusion

Are the axle splines different in number depending on the case number. For example I have some small bolt pattern a body axles that I think are 29 spline.
They fit into a 741 chunk. However when I start shopping around for a posi carrier I see some that do not say how many splines and some that state right away that they are 30 spline carriers. What gives?

your 741 case should have 30 spline.The factory diffs I think are all 30 spline on the 741,742 and the 489.I will check with Dr diff and get back with you. Mark

8-3/4 are ALL 30 spline, even A body small bolt pattern axles.
The aftermarket offers a 35 spline axle and spool.

Most people may assume that you know that 30 spline is the standard, others may just be clueless and don't know.
On both points they probably figure you know what you need and you should ask.

Mopar never used a 29 spline on anything. That's a Ford spline count.
