Ive asked this on the BBD and Moparts but it must be a misunderstood question so ill ask it as simple as i can. What is the diadvantage of using a moly spool VS a forged steel spool? Why do i ask this? because on ebay there is a guy selling moly spools for mopar, ford, chevys, and this one is for an 8 3/4 30 spline for 105.00 dollars.

Lets see if i can help answer this, the Moly spool is of lighter material then the forged, they add a moly material in the steel to make them lighter, they are still strong, but not as strong as forged castings, any "full spool" is going to take HP, your R&P will most likely fail before the spool will. Just stay away from the minny spools, they don't have near the strength of a full spool & do fail.

I ordered it Fri afternoon with a 4.30 gear. it seems hes sold alot of them with no issuses. 105$ is a good price for a spool and 205$ for the gears, I think the name was ricks speed shop but ill get the name again.

I got the richmond gear, he also had yukon gears, A spool is pretty easy to install, if your rear end is already set up then all you need to do is unbolt the caps and unbolt the ring gear bolts and remove and install the ring gear to the spool and install it back to the center section and set back lash and thats about it, about an hour or less to do the job.

Quick Performance Racing phn# 641 751 8060 i found this on ebay but i called him and did the purchase over the phone the item # 370319354615 in the drivetrain section of ebay. the spool came in today with the bearings and new bolts wich i also purchased the gear should be here tomorrow, the spool looks good but i dont have any way to set it up right now to check for any run out or other flaws.
